The Arts and Mad March!

Mad March has got to be the best time to be involved in the Arts in Adelaide.

Blackfriars Drama students certainly witnessed some exhilarating performances in the Fringe and Adelaide Festival of the Arts.

The Year 12 Drama and Year 11 Creative Arts students kicked off March as Fringe artists in their own right with their performance of “Truth” at the Parks. They were also very lucky to view some outstanding performances at the Festival of Arts, including “Xenos”, “The Kings of War”, “The Far Side of the Moon” and “Memorial”.

On Wednesday 21 March, they also participated in a Physical Theatre workshop conducted by two acclaimed actors from the SA State Theatre Company, Nathan O’Keefe and Rashidi Edward.

The Year 9 students participated in a presentation by Anna Hodge from Rising Sun Pictures in which she explained some of the opportunities that exist in Adelaide for students interested in film. Some of the films that Rising Sun Pictures have created digital effects for include: The “Harry Potter” series, “Lord of the Rings”, “The Hunger Games”, “Game of Thrones”, “Wolverine”, “The Great Gatsby” and more recently “Thor Raganuk”.

The Year 8 students were privileged to watch the award winning, and truly delightful, “The Tragical Life of Cheeseboy”  presented at The Fringe by Adelaide’s  Slingsby Theatre Company.

The Year 7s were fortunate to participate in Schools Out at Gluttony where they sampled the atmosphere of the Fringe and viewed some impressive physical theatre and circus by Le Petit Circus. They were also given the opportunity to try their own hand at unicycle, balancing, trampoline and trapeze in a workshop at the SA Circus Centre conducted by an award winning performer from the Fringe show “Attic”, Jono Dragt.
