Athletics Carnival

We were blessed with perfect weather at SA Athletics Stadium for our 2018 Athletics Carnival. The boys were magnificent in both their support of their House mates and in their participation. Athletics Carnival is a vibrant celebration of our diverse community. It was an honour to have old scholar and athletics legend, Mr Rene Schinkel ’67 present the winning Houses, Denifle/Jarrett with the winner’s trophy (pictured below).

Special thanks to Mr Brad Baldacchino, Mr Owen Stanborough, Ms Anthea Osborne, Mr Corey Leditschke and Miss Alison de Souza, the House Captains and the PE Staff, for their organisation of a marvellous day.

Final scores:

Denifle/Jarrett 2506

Burke/Lacordaire 2437

Aquinas/Horten 1992

DeVittoria/Lagrange 1813

Student/Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations

A reminder that the Student/Parent/Teacher Learning Conversations for Reception to Year 12 students will be held on Wednesday 4 April from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. You should now have received your Edval Interviews login to book interviews with your son’s teachers. If you have not received it, please contact the school.

If you do not have access to the Internet, please contact the school on 8169 3965 to have your bookings entered for you. Bookings will close at 10:00pm on Monday 2 April.

It is an expectation that students attend the interviews and lead the conversation about their learning. All students are expected to wear their summer or sports uniform.

Please note that students will be dismissed at 1:00pm on this day.

Continuous Online Reporting

As we move towards the end of Lenten Term, you will begin to receive online feedback on assessment items which will go towards your son’s final grade. Teachers will give feedback through Marksbooks which will articulate how your son is progressing, and what he needs to do to improve. SEQTA is the medium used by the school for communication, and I strongly encourage you to download the app if you have not already done so. If you have any queries, please contact Paul Mason at seqta@bps.sa.edu.au

Healthy Mind

It is important to have a chat with your son about his mental health. Leaders of Catholic Education spent an afternoon with Dr Susie Green and we examined the following six simple strategies for a healthy mind:

  1. Mindfulness and Prayer – a time of silence everyday
  2. Mindset – Fixed v Growth mindset
  3. Mood – Being grateful for the simple gift of life
  4. Meaning in life – Know your ‘why’?
  5. Might – Use your strengths to boost your mood
  6. Mental Toughness – Control, challenge, confidence and commitment

Easter

I would like to take this opportunity to wish our families a happy and holy Easter. As we celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus; may we allow the transforming experience of the person and work of Christ to pierce the cracks in our life and bring us to understand our ‘why’ in the world.

Term 2 - Return to School and Change of Uniform

A reminder that Monday 30 April 2018 is a Pupil Free Day, and students will return on Tuesday 1 May. When students return, they will be required to wear their full winter uniform. Please refer to the Uniform Shop article in this edition of the newsletter for further information.
