YEAR 8 GIRLS BADMINTON - KINGSTON DIVISION CHAMPIONS

On Friday 16 June, the Girls Badminton competition team won the Kingston Division. During the weekly Round Robin games we played Brighton and it was a close match. We just won 104 - 101 (3 games apiece). It was an easier win against Parkdale 6-0.

We then progressed to the finals and defeated Bentleigh and Sandringham 6-0 to reach the Southern Metropolitan Finals.

We felt nervous at the beginning but once we started playing, everyone was extremely concentrated. We are all very excited and fortunate to have qualified for the regional finals and hopefully we win through to State.

Special thanks to our coaches Mrs Hooper and Mr Braniska in making this happen.

Well done Nikhita Bharathy, Meena Abhhilash, Sofia Vranciancu, Avyana Girotra, Zaina Salil & Devika Rajesh.

The SMR finals are on Wednesday 16th August. Goodluck girls!

STATE LAWN BOWLS

Senior Lawn Bowls

On Tuesday 9 May, as Kingston Division and Southern Metropolitan Champions, the Senior team travelled across the city to play at Sunbury Bowls Club in the School Sport Victoria State Bowls competition. They were playing the best of the best! They had great success in the qualifying rounds with two wins beating Rutherglen (5-3) and Camperdown (7-5). They then progressed to the Semifinals but lost to Kyabram who regularly play for their local club. They were absolutely thrilled to finish 4th in the State!

Thank You to the McKinnon Bowls Club who offered their greens for practice. The team has been invited to join the McKinnon Lawn Bowls Club with a development coach to continue their involvement in the game.

Congratulations to Jack Lewis (Skip),Josh Haynes (Lead) & Alex Pantelios (2nd)

Junior Lawn Bowls

The McKinnon Junior Bowls team were also invited to the State Lawn Bowls. They fought exceptionally hard and played spectacularly but unfortunately missed out on the Semifinal. Most of the schools at the State level are from the state’s regional areas so they were grateful for the opportunity to play against these teams. They are looking forward to coming back next year stronger than ever.

Thank You to Mrs Hooper for organizing, supporting and driving us. What an incredible journey!

Congratulations to the junior team on their fine performance: Stephan Tale (Skip),Xavier Lynch (Lead) & Vicki Bui (2nd).
