MATHS ACTIVITY:

PROVE PYTHAGORAS THEOREM USING PERIGAL'S PUZZLE

Year 7 ELMS students recently did an activity where they proved the Pythagoras Theorem using Perigal's puzzle. Please find below article written by Isabel Halvorsen.

In this activity we tried to prove Pythagoras theorem using Perigal’s Puzzle. In order to do this we were given a sheet of paper which had pieces to cut out. To complete the task we had to cut off the shapes and glue them to a separate larger square where they would fit perfectly within.

This activity helped us to better understand and visualise Pythagoras theorem as we could actually see it in practice as opposed to a mathematical formula.

I found this activity interesting and engaging as this was something different and new compared to our usual math classes and it helped us understand the theorem better! I would love to do more activities like this in the future as I think everyone enjoyed it and had a little bit of fun while also learning something in the process.
