NSW Schools Cup Netball

On Tuesday 23 May McCarthy was well represented at the NSW Netball Schools Cup in Tamworth. A big thank you to all the staff, students, umpires and parent volunteers who helped out on the day. Congratulations to the year 7/8 boys- sharks team, year 9/10 boys team 1 and year 9/10 girls team 1 who will progress to the North West Finals on Wednesday September 20.

NSW CCC Hockey

On Monday 15 May 38 students traveled via coach to Bathurst for the CCC Hockey Carnival. McCarthy had 9 students make this journey a little earlier to participate in the CCC selection trials which took place on Monday. Congratulations to Laura Hall, Mackenzie Scott, Ben O'Connor, Khye Pulton, Jayden and Mitchell Scott for gaining selection in the  NSWCCC Hockey squads.

Playing on sand, water based surfaces and some ‘old school’ grass fields, all teams represented the school and McCarthy Community admirably. The junior girls team progressed through their pool into the semi finals without conceding a goal, enduring some skill adjustment to cope with lots of grass hockey on day one. 1-0, 5-0 and 7-0 victories saw good momentum heading into the semi finals.

The senior girls met eventual winners Lismore in the first match and went down 6-2 in a ‘physical’ encounter. With only one team progressing per pool, their pool results of 2-6 loss, 3-0 and 4-1 victories were only enough to see them into a playoff and just outside the semis. A late goal from Maggie Highlands and heroics in goal by Julia White clinched the playoff match against Port Macquarie 1-0.

The senior boys warmed into the pool competition amidst some foggy conditions, with a 2-1 loss, 2-2 draw against eventual winner Port Macquarie, 5-0 and 5-0 wins. Their dominant goal difference wasn’t enough to seal a semi spot but they also took the playoff match for 5th 6-4 against Lismore.

The Junior girls semi final was a fast match with stoic McCarthy defence withstanding wave after wave of attack from a tough opponent in Orange. 3-0 wasn’t a great reflection of the gritty match with all goals coming fairly late in the game.

Thanks to Mr Denton for all his efforts in organising squads, training sessions, jerseys, socks, skirts, accommodation and even meals each night! Thank you also to Mrs Gale, Mr Saban and Mrs Lees for their organisation and support through the trip and some great photos.

Congratulations to Tarnee Ingram who made the Girls Open's NSW CCC Rugby League team to compete in the Australian Championships in Redciffe QLD. Tarnee was also named player of the match in the Sydney metro game. Amazing effort Tarnee! Charlotte Porter also tried out for the under 18’s team and played well coming close to selection. Both students made the College proud. Well done girls!
