Environmental Council

Clean Up Australia Day

This term, the environmental council has been overly successful in our endeavours to improve and learn about the environment itself and how we benefit from it. On the 19th of June, a select few members from our council attended a visit to the local nursery which has been kind enough to further our education on both global and local issues severely affecting the environment in which we inhabit. Throughout this particular visit our students were taught how to successfully transplant seeds and plants as well as extract seedlings. We are very grateful for the valuable skills which have been passed down to us from these inspiring role models.

Furthermore, there have been severe improvements in the creek area where the environmental council is working and next term we are looking at continuing major works so that we are able to get our hands a little dirty and give back to the environment. In comparison with our creek project our mural, which the mentor groups competed in to have the winning design, is coming along nicely and should be completed halfway through the next term.

Additionally, National Tree day is approaching fast and will be celebrated next term on the last Friday and Sunday in July. National Tree Day is a great opportunity for individuals, businesses, and community groups to come together and make a positive impact on their local environment. Planting trees is a simple but effective way to improve air quality, reduce erosion, and promote biodiversity.

We encourage any students who are wanting to join the environmental council to come to our annual meeting which is held every Thursday second break and any teachers who are interested in seeing what we do within the school community. We hope to see you all there. - Charlette Lyon; Publicity Officer
