Literacy Update

Book Week is here!
It’s one of the most exciting times of the year in the literacy calendar.
The students are busy reading and exploring the shortlisted books, sharing their ideas and discovering some wonderful new stories, authors and illustrators.
There is always something special about seeing students get excited about books and sharing their favourite stories with one another.
I’m looking forward to our Book Week assembly and, of course, the much anticipated dress up day on Friday!
Next week, I’ll be announcing the student winners from the shortlisted books, so stay tuned.

Virtual Author Talk – Will Kostakis
Our Year 3–6 students will have the opportunity to hear from Australian author Will Kostakis during a special virtual author talk on Wednesday, 26 August, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
Will is an award winning author who began writing when he was a teenager. His first novel, Loathing Lola, was published when he was just 19, and his second novel, The First Third, won the 2014 Gold Inky Award. He has since written a range of popular books for young people, including The Sidekicks and Monuments.
During the session, students will hear about Will’s journey as an author, what inspires his stories and his experiences as a writer. It will be a great opportunity for students to connect with an Australian author and learn more about writing and storytelling.
Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee
Spelling Bee Success!
The results are in for our Spelling Bee School Round, and I am excited to share that one student has advanced to the State/Territory Finals!
Congratulations to Harrison Micallef (5/6 MC), who achieved an impressive 25 out of 30, completing the round in just 1 minute and 26 seconds.
Well done, Harrison! We wish you the very best of luck in the State/Territory Finals!
Scholastic Book Fair
That’s a wrap on the Scholastic Book Fair!
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Scholastic Book Fair. Your support helps our school earn free books for classrooms and the library. I really appreciate your contribution!
