Wellbeing – Week 7

Small Acts. Big Impact.

Happy Week 7! Last week, our school community came together for Bullying No Way! National Week of Action, focusing on the importance of creating a safe, respectful and inclusive school environment where everyone feels valued, included and supported.

To launch the week, students across the school participated in the Kids Helpline’s Largest Anti-Bullying Lesson online webinar. The interactive session provided students with opportunities to learn about bullying, respectful relationships and strategies for responding to challenging situations. Students were introduced to a useful strategy called Pause, Choose and Act, which encourages us to stop, think about our options and choose a safe and respectful response.

Across the school, students explored this year's theme, “Small Acts. Big Impact,” and considered how our everyday actions can create positive ripples. Learning focused on inclusion, empathy, kindness and speaking up when something is not right.

Learning Across the School

Foundation: Students explored how small acts of kindness can make a big difference. They identified what kindness can look, sound and feel like and created a “Kindness Hand” showing one kind action they could take.

Year 1 & 2: Students explored the ripple effect of kindness and how small actions can help others feel happy, safe and included. They created water-drop artworks and reflected on how their actions can make someone’s day better.

Year 3 & 4: Students investigated how small acts can create a positive ripple effect. Through different scenarios, they explored how one kind action can influence others and considered small acts of kindness they could put into practice.

Year 5 & 6: Students explored the power of words, kindness and positive action. They created “Cards for Change” featuring slogans and calls to action, and brainstormed 100 small acts of kindness they could complete around the school as part of the #SmallActsBigImpact challenge. Students also reflected on what it means to be an upstander and how we can safely speak up or seek help when someone is being treated unfairly.

What is bullying?

Bullying involves repeated behaviour that causes harm, distress or fear and involves a real or perceived imbalance of power. It can be physical, verbal, social or online.

Not every friendship difficulty or disagreement is bullying, but every student deserves to feel safe and supported. If something is worrying your child, we encourage them to speak to a trusted adult at school.

Students can speak to their classroom teacher, Wellbeing Leaders Vicky Karalis & Bianka Zorzut, Deputy Principal Vira Pirrotta, the Principal Manuela Watson, or another trusted adult. Families are also encouraged to contact the school if they have concerns about their child's wellbeing or safety.

Most importantly, we want our students to know that speaking up is not dobbing; it is an important part of keeping ourselves and others safe.
