Year 1 News

It has been another busy and exciting week of learning in the Year 1 spaces!
Last week was National Bully No Way week. As kind and inclusive learners, we participated in a range of learning activities where we explored what bullying is, and discussed ways we can help make our school a safe, kind and inclusive place for everyone. We learnt about being a “bucket filler” by showing kindness and thinking about how our words and actions can make others feel. We also explored the idea of ripples in water and how one small act of kindness can spread and make a positive difference to others - “Small Acts, Big Impact”.
At the beginning of the week, we had a very exciting visit from Omar and Tyrone as part of our Dance Curriculum! We learnt a fun dance to Can’t Stop the Feeling! by Justin Timberlake and practised our dance moves together. We then came together as a whole school for a special concert, where we proudly performed and shared what we had learnt. It was wonderful to see everyone dancing, smiling and enjoying themselves!
As readers, we have been celebrating Book Week by exploring a range of wonderful, shortlisted picture books. We read Dear Broccoli, Farm by the Sea and Frogs Are Our Friends. We enjoyed discussing the characters, settings and ideas in each story, making connections and sharing our own thoughts and wonderings. Through our Book Week texts, we have been developing our love of reading and enjoying the opportunity to explore new and engaging stories together.
Sadly, this week we said farewell to our Henny Penny Chickens. It was so fascinating to watch them hatch and grow while learning about the chicken life cycle. Before they left, we even had the chance to hold them and say goodbye!
