Year 5/6 News

Last week was a very busy week in 5/6!

We kicked off Monday with an exciting dance incursion! Our 5/6 students did an amazing job learning all the dance steps and routines throughout the day. They then put their new skills on display that afternoon, performing confidently for the entire school. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm, teamwork and willingness to give something new a go!

It was National Bullying No Way Week, and our students took part in a Kids Helpline incursion on Monday. Students explored what is classified as bullying and the difference between bullying and everyday friendship issues. They also learnt strategies for what to do if they experience bullying and how they can safely support someone else who may be being bullied. They then engaged in a learning activity where students explored this year’s theme, “Small Acts, Big Impact.” We discussed how small actions such as including someone, speaking up, showing kindness and offering support can create a positive ripple effect and make a meaningful difference to others.

We had a fantastic time on our excursion to Melbourne Zoo, and luckily, the rain stayed away! It was a wonderful opportunity for students to put their Inquiry learning into practice as they explored animal adaptations and investigated the impact humans can have on habitats and animal survival. We were especially lucky to see the adorable snow leopard cubs, born earlier this year, along with many other amazing animals up close. It was also wonderful to hear students making connections to our class novel, The Last Bear, and finding interesting facts and evidence that they could use to strengthen their persuasive writing pieces. It was a fun and engaging day of learning, discovery and plenty of animal encounters!
