This August, we will be celebrating the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week after the winners of the CBCA Awards is announced on the 21st of August, with a Book Week Parade on the 24th of August. The theme for this year is Symphony of Stories, which reminds us that many stories that have been passed down were once remembered as songs before they were ever written down.
Mrs Allibon has been reading the shortlisted books to classes in the library this term and so far, it looks like “Derek” by Anne Donaldson and Matt Shanks and “Dear Broccoli” by Jo Dabrowski and Cate James are the fan favourites to win the CBCA Awards. The students have enjoyed hearing and voting on which shortlisted book should win and I look forward to seeing if they voted for the same titles as the CBCA judges.
If you are looking for something to read, but not sure what books are good the CBCA Notable and Shortlisted books are a great place to start. The list of titles from this year and past years are available online via the CBCA website.
Happy Reading,
Jessica Skerry
