Foundation Dance – Exploring Movement Through Play

This term, our Foundation students have been discovering the joy of dance through imagination, music and purposeful play. Students have explored how their bodies can move in different ways by travelling, stretching, twisting, jumping and creating shapes while responding to stories, songs and a variety of music. Students are building confidence as they express ideas and emotions through movement, develop coordination and body awareness, and learn to move safely in their own space and with others. Throughout the unit, children will share their dances with classmates, celebrating creativity, participation and the enjoyment of moving together in a fun and supportive environment.

Year 1/2 Performing Arts – The Pirate Party! 

Ahoy, mateys! This term, our Year 1/2 students set sail on an exciting performing arts adventure as they rehearse and perform The Pirate Party. Throughout the unit, students have been developing their confidence by learning songs, dances and dramatic scenes while working together to bring the story to life. They have explored how a play is structured with a clear beginning, middle and end, use expressive voices, movement and facial expressions to portray characters, and perform music and dance to communicate with an audience. As rehearsals progress, students build teamwork, creativity and stage confidence before proudly presenting The Pirate Party to their school peers during the day and in a special evening performance for families in the school hall on Tuesday 25th Aug, 5:45-6:13pm. We look forward to celebrating our young performers as they showcase all they have learned through this fun and memorable production, they are super excited! (see poster attached)

Year 3/4 Drama – Picture Story Books to Performance

This term, our Year 3/4 students have been bringing beloved picture story books to life through the exciting world of drama. Students have explored characters, settings, emotions and story structure as they work collaboratively to devise, rehearse and perform short plays inspired by a range of picture books. Along the way, they have developed confidence, creativity, communication and teamwork while learning performance skills such as voice projection, facial expression, movement and stage presence. The unit will conclude with a special performance for our Junior School students during book week, giving our young actors the opportunity to entertain an authentic audience and celebrate their hard work and creativity.

Year 5/6 Drama – Lights, Camera, Action! 

This term, our Year 5/6 students have stepped into the exciting world of television as they explore the art of drama through television commercials and improvisation. Students have been learning how actors use voice, facial expressions, body language and movement to engage an audience and communicate a clear message. Working collaboratively, they are devising, rehearsing and performing original commercials, experimenting with persuasive techniques, humour, target audiences and creative storytelling. Through fun improvisation games and drama challenges, students build confidence, quick thinking, teamwork and performance skills while developing their ability to think creatively and communicate effectively. The unit will conclude with students presenting their original television commercials to their classmates, celebrating their creativity and growing confidence as performers.
