What a fantastic start to Term 3 we have had across our Year 1/2 cohort! It has been wonderful to see the students return eager to learn, embrace new challenges and continue building their confidence.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have been exploring the world of shapes by identifying, describing and comparing a variety of two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional objects. They have also enjoyed using shapes to create tangrams, developing their problem-solving and spatial thinking skills in a fun and creative way.

Students have continued building their understanding of multiplication and division through sharing, grouping and creating arrays. They have been making equal groups of 2, 5 and 10, while using skip counting to find totals and strengthen their number knowledge.

Literacy

The cohort have also been enjoying our novel study of The Stone Lion, using the story to inspire thoughtful discussions and creative writing. They have been carefully planning, drafting, editing, publishing and presenting their work. Along the way, they have been strengthening their sentence writing by using conjunctions, pronouns, adjectives and verbs. We have also started our new novel study, The Snail and the Whale, which has been a popular text among the group! We look forward to publishing another narrative text in the coming weeks!

Humanities

In Humanities, students have been learning about how families and daily life have changed and stayed the same over time. They have been comparing aspects of their own lives with those of their parents and grandparents, including family structures, homes, traditions, school life and leisure activities. It has been wonderful to hear the thoughtful conversations and personal connections students have made throughout this unit.

Show and Share

Show and Share continues to be a highlight of our week! It has been wonderful to see students proudly sharing special items, photos and stories from their families and home lives. These presentations have helped build confidence in public speaking, while also allowing classmates to learn more about one another and celebrate the unique experiences that make our classroom community so special.

Thank You to Our Parent Helpers

A huge thank you to all of our parent helpers who have come in to read with the students this term. The children genuinely look forward to this special time, and your support is making a real difference to their confidence and enjoyment of reading. We also greatly appreciate the opportunity to strengthen the connection between our classroom and our wonderful school community. Thank you for giving your time so generously!

Lastly, we also wanted to take this opportunity to wish Mrs Anderson all the best as she will begin her maternity leave around week 6.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Mr Whyte who has will be stepping in to teach 1/2B for the remainder of the year.

We are so excited for all that is to come for the remainder of Term 3!
