One Thing to Ask Your Child Tonight

Meaningful conversations at home can have a powerful impact on children's learning. While it is easy to ask, "What did you do at school today?", children often find it easier to share their thinking when asked more specific and reflective questions.

Questions such as:

What made you change your mind this week?

What problem did you solve today?

What question are you still wondering about?

What was challenging for you this week?

Encourage children to think deeply about their learning experiences and the skills they are developing. These questions help children reflect on their growth, recognise challenges they have overcome, and identify areas they are still curious about.

By taking just a few minutes each evening to ask one thoughtful question, families can gain a greater understanding of their child's learning journey while strengthening the connection between home and school. These conversations support children in becoming reflective learners who can talk confidently about their thinking, achievements, and next steps.

We encourage you to try one of these questions at home and enjoy the rich conversations that follow.
