The Year Fours have been working so well as we head into the second half of Term Two. Hopefully everyone is keeping nice and warm now that winter has started.

Reading:

Year 4 students have been actively developing their reading comprehension and communication skills through a range of engaging learning experiences this term. One focus area has been identifying facts and opinions in a variety of texts. Students have learned how to distinguish between statements that can be proven true and those that express personal beliefs or feelings. Through class discussions and reading activities, they have become more confident in analysing information and thinking critically about what they read. Students have also enjoyed participating in Readers' Theatre. This exciting activity has allowed them to bring stories to life by reading scripts with expression, fluency, and enthusiasm. Readers' Theatre has helped students build confidence in oral reading while developing their understanding of characters, dialogue, and storytelling.

Writing:

Year 4 students have been developing their persuasive writing skills by learning how to build strong arguments and support their opinions with reasons and evidence. They have explored themed ideas, organised their thoughts, and examined the structure of persuasive texts, including introductions, supporting arguments, and conclusions. We are proud of the confidence and creativity students are showing in their writing.

Mathematics:

Year 4 students have been focusing on multiplication and division concepts and developing a range of strategies to solve problems confidently. Students have explored how arrays can be used to represent multiplication and division, helping them visualise groups, rows, and columns and understand the relationship between the two operations. It has been wonderful to see students applying these skills with increasing confidence and explaining their mathematical thinking using a variety of strategies.

Inquiry:

Year 4 students have been exploring how media influences the way people think, feel, and make decisions. Through a range of activities, students have investigated different forms of advertising and marketing, examining the techniques used to capture attention and persuade audiences. Students have analysed advertisements across various media platforms. They have also discussed how advertisements are designed for specific audiences and how media messages can influence consumer choices. This unit has encouraged students to think critically about the media they encounter every day and develop a deeper understanding of how advertising and marketing shape our world.
