Premier's Reading Challenge

Premier's Reading Challenge Success

The Premier's Reading Challenge is a statewide initiative that encourages students to develop a love of reading by engaging with a wide range of books throughout the school year. It is not a competition, but a challenge that promotes reading for enjoyment and helps students broaden their literacy skills by exploring different authors, genres, and texts.

We are incredibly proud to share some exciting news with our school community. Our school has achieved one of the highest numbers of books read in the entire state for the Premier's Reading Challenge, with students reading more than 26,000 books. This outstanding achievement has resulted in the Department selecting our school to be the featured school for this year's Premier's Reading Challenge.

The Premier's Reading Challenge, themed "Stories to discover. Stories to tell", encourages students to read for enjoyment, explore new genres and authors, and develop a lifelong love of reading. Since the challenge began in Term 2 Week 7, our Primary School students have embraced the opportunity with great enthusiasm.

Reading Targets

Prep–

Year 2

Read 30 books (20 from the Challenge list and 10 Choice books).

Books may be read independently or by an adult.

Years 3–6Read 15 books independently (10 from the Challenge list and 5 Choice books).

To celebrate our progress, a special display has been created in the library featuring six reading trees. Each tree represents 5,000 books read, and for every 100 books recorded, a leaf is added. Our school-wide goal is to reach 30,000 books read this year.

A special thank you goes to our passionate staff- Charlotte Turner, Stephanie Fatouros,Estelle Pizer, Tony Pace and Jackie Daniali for their support in preparing the school for a filming opportunity with the Department of Education and helping showcase the incredible reading culture we have built together.

Most importantly, thank you to our students, families, and staff for continuing to encourage reading every day. This achievement is a wonderful reflection of our school's commitment to literacy, curiosity, and learning. We look forward to seeing our reading trees flourish as we continue working together towards our 30,000-book goal!

The challenge closes on 4 September 2026. Let's encourage lots of reading across Term 2 and Term 3 and make this the most successful Premier’s Reading Challenge yet!
