Christ the King Catholic Parish,

Last weekend our parish, Christ the King Catholic Parish, celebrated their first Parish Feast Day.  Father Nathan had ensured that the altar at St. Patrick's church was beautifully prepared with stunning floral arrangements.

Advent

CHRISTMAS is a special time for Catholics, and we are called to prepare ourselves in the weeks leading up to it.

This year, Advent begins on Sunday 30th November, and runs for about four weeks until December 24.

Advent is the first season in the Church’s Liturgical calendar and is marked by expectation, waiting and hope.

We are given four weeks to prepare for the coming of Jesus.

The word advent literally means someone’s coming, and that someone is Jesus.

Just as we clean and tidy our home for a guest, we need to prepare spiritually to welcome Jesus.

It is the coming of the Messiah. Therefore, we need to prepare ourselves well,

We are invited to come more to church and be involved in the preparation for Christmas.

Peace is a reminder to reconcile with God, with ourselves and others. The coming of Christ is a sign of healing and bringing harmony to relationships.

We will celebrate the first week of Advent on Friday with our Advent Mass beginning at 9.30am in our school hall. All families and extended families are welcome to join us for the celebration.

The beginning of Advent also brings many children giving out Christmas cards.  This gesture of wishing others peace and joy at Christmas is a lovely tradition. Unfortunately, it has lost some of its shine with the inclusion of sugary Candy Canes.  We encourage families to enjoy the giving of cards and refrain from the candy canes at school.  Keep these treats for other occasions.

First Confession

This Wednesday evening our grade 3 children will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession.  The first group will be at 5.30pm in our chapel and the second group will be at 6.30 in the chapel. The children are very excited to be receiving the sacrament.

Sandhurst awards

Last Thursday almost 300 educators, students and parents from across the 51 schools and six early learning centres of Sandhurst, gathered in Bendigo to honour the individuals and teams who bring the mission of Catholic Education to life and live our Guiding Lights. Grade six students Layla Hill and Maddison Jones were accompanied by their mother's and were each presented with their award certificate and pin.

It was a great day enjoyed by all.

Drop off zone near hall

I remind parents that the drop off zone along the side of the hall is only a drop off or pick up area.  Parents are not to leave their cars in this area.  We have the car park available for parents who wish to leave their cars and walk their children into school.

We thank you for your cooperation with the smooth flowing of the drop off zone.
