From the School Council President
On behalf of School Council, I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their ongoing support throughout what has been another significant year for Heathmont East Primary School.
At our recent Annual General Meeting, I reflected on the many achievements of our school community and the resilience that continues to define HEPS. Despite significant challenges associated with ageing infrastructure and the transition to temporary learning spaces, our students continue to achieve outstanding results, our staff continue to deliver exceptional learning experiences, and our community remains as strong and engaged as ever.
As many families know, advocacy for the future redevelopment of our school remains a key priority for School Council. While the completion of our new Administration Building was an important milestone, more than 75% of our learning spaces are currently housed in temporary modular classrooms following the demolition of the original buildings.
Our focus continues to be securing funding for Stages 2 and 3 of the School Master Plan, which would deliver 12 new permanent classrooms and allow valuable open space to be progressively returned to students. These next stages are critical to ensuring our facilities reflect the high-quality education being delivered every day at HEPS.
In recent months, School Leadership and School Council has continued meeting with elected representatives and candidates from across the political spectrum to share the story of our school. We have been encouraged by the positive conversations held so far and the genuine interest shown in understanding both the challenges and opportunities facing our community.
Some families may have recently seen a social media post from the Independent candidate (Prue Cutts) for Ringwood following a visit to our school. It was pleasing to see Heathmont East Primary School's story shared more broadly and for recognition to be given to the outstanding work happening across our school community.
Importantly, School Council's approach to advocacy is entirely non-partisan. Our objective is simple: to secure the investment our students deserve. We welcome engagement from all candidates and elected representatives who are willing to listen and advocate for the next stages of our Master Plan, regardless of political affiliation.
This week, we look forward to welcoming another candidate to HEPS, and we are also looking forward to hosting several others over the coming weeks. These visits provide an important opportunity for candidates to see firsthand both the success of our school and the facility challenges our students and staff continue to navigate each day.
The message School Council is consistently sharing is that Heathmont East Primary School is a thriving, high-performing school that continues to succeed despite significant facility constraints. Our students should not be disadvantaged because our community has worked so hard to maintain excellent outcomes. We believe our facilities should match the quality of education, teaching and learning that occurs at HEPS every day.
Thank you for your continued support as we advocate for the future of our school. Together, as a community, we will continue working towards securing the investment needed to deliver the next stages of the Heathmont East Primary School Master Plan.
