🎁 Friday 4th September – Father’s Day Stall

Literacy Day

We had a fantastic time celebrating Literacy Day! Many of us went all out with our costumes, dressing up as a wonderful variety of characters from many different books.

 

Throughout the day, we took part in a range of engaging activities. We reviewed a book of our choice using the CBCA Junior Judge rubric, challenged ourselves to write a story in just six words, and created an engaging speech about an ordinary, everyday item, such as a pencil. 

 

We also enjoyed an inspiring visit from Andrea Rowe, the author of many popular picture books, including the award-winning, Jetty Jumping. It was a wonderful opportunity to hear about her experiences as an author and celebrate the joy of reading and storytelling.

Reading

In Reading, we are coming towards the end of our whole-class novel study of How to Bee by Bren MacDibble. Through the novel, we have been developing our factual and technical knowledge in preparation for writing a news report, learning how to select and organise information clearly to inform a reader. We have also been exploring how writers use journalistic language, structure and techniques such as direct and indirect speech, modality and emotive language to inform and engage an audience.

Writing

In Writing, we have been having fun demonstrating our creativity through different forms of poetry. We have made careful and deliberate choices with language, experimenting with words and phrases to create particular effects, including humour. We have also followed specific rules and patterns to create poems such as haikus, limericks and free verse.

Maths

In Mathematics, we recently finished our Order of Operations unit and have begun learning about the Cartesian plane. We have been learning how to identify the four quadrants and locate and plot points using coordinates. We have been developing our understanding of how the position of a point is represented using its coordinates and will soon explore how points can be moved around the plane.Â
