Year 12 Update

Are we there yet?

Year 12 students have a busy term ahead – last week they registered for VTAC as the first step in looking for and applying to post-secondary institutions, then took a walk to the Country Universities Centre last Wednesday where they met Centre Manager, Mark van Bergen. Mark not only took them on a tour of the Centre and explained what facilities are available for them to make use of but also took him on a journey through his own life story – highlighting his many career changes and all the varying skills he has acquired along the way.

For further information about Country Universities Centre head to  https://www.cucovensmurray.edu.au/

They will continue to look at dates for University Open Days and be asked to consider registering for exam support seminars. Other students will be on the look out for apprenticeships and careers.

There will be numerous visitors to the school providing a wealth of information and advice. Recently, staff member Geraldine Meyer introduced students to what the Medicare system is about and the importance of building their awareness of different health support systems available to students once they leave school. We’ll soon be hearing from representatives from Services Australia who will explain Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY.

Later students will get to hear about other key topics such as banking, insurance and real estate.

Connex will once again visit the school to highlight cadetships; “Looking After Your Mates” will again visit the school to talk about how to be safe around driving and socialising; and the students will again participate in a seminar on study habits in the lead into exams.
