The Right Fit in Therapy Can Change Everything

One of the most common questions I receive from families is:"Do you know a good therapist for my child?"

It’s a question I take to heart. When a young person is ready to open up, finding the right person to walk alongside them can make all the difference.

Research shows that the strongest predictor of success in therapy is not the type of therapy, how often you go, or even how experienced the clinician is — it’s the quality of the relationship. It’s how safe and supported you feel in that space. In fact, studies show that 30% of people stop therapy early, often because they didn’t feel a good connection with their therapist.

This is why I always take the time to think carefully about who I refer families to, considering not just qualifications, but personality, communication style, and who might be the best fit for your child.

But I also know how hard this can be outside the school setting. I’ve seen families wait months on long waitlists or go through multiple therapists hoping one eventually clicks. Starting therapy is already a big step, and when that first experience feels off, it can be discouraging.

That’s exactly why I co-founded InPsync, a platform designed to help people find the right-fit therapist the first time. InPsync matches people based on what actually matters: therapeutic style, personality compatibility, communication approach, and shared values. It’s not just about what postcode you live in — it’s about who you will feel comfortable opening up to.

I am so proud to share this with our St George’s community first. We are incredibly lucky to have such a wide range of experienced mental health professionals in Perth — not just psychologists, but also counsellors, mental health social workers, and occupational therapists, many of whom have availability right now.

We are launching soon, with a growing list of vetted, registered, and trusted therapists, and I’d love to invite you to join the waitlist at www.inpsync.app if you’re looking for support — for your child, for yourself, or for someone you care about.

Because when therapy clicks, it sticks. And that connection can change everything. Of course, I also welcome you to reach out to me if you don’t know where to start, need any more info, or would like to chat to me more specifically about the support your young person might need.

Warmly,
