Hope keeps us resilient

We recently celebrated two significant events in the chapel: Hope25 and Reconciliation Week.

The hymn "Brother, Sister, Let Me Serve You" by Richard Gillard reminded us of our shared journey and support for one another, especially as students prepared for their assessments and exams.

The 116km walk by Bishop Hans and Rev Dr Eleanor O’Donnell was one of the HOPE25 events in our diocese, serving as a fundraiser for events like the Anglicare OPTUS Sleep Out while reminding us of the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. The walk began at St. James’ Anglican Community School in Alkimos, proceeding to St. Mark’s Anglican Community School in Hillarys, then to St. Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School in Karrinyup, Hale School, JSR, Guildford, Perth College concluding here at St George’s Anglican Grammar School with an evening Eucharist at St George’s Cathedral.

Our Principal, Mrs Tina Campbell, and I, together with Miss Sadie Yoxall, led 20 of our students on the final leg from Perth College to our school. Then, 18 of our students registered for the Walk for Reconciliation at Lake Monger. Although this event was cancelled due to inclement weather, the words by Henry Bell, one of our Year 7s are remarkable: “As part of Reconciliation Week 2025, I’d love to be going on a walk for reconciliation to show my support for First Nations Peoples and help build stronger connections with local communities. Walking together for reconciliation is an easy but powerful way to show unity, respect, and understanding.”

Students like Henry fill my heart with so much joy and hope for the future, while holding onto the words of St. Paul:

And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured our His love into our hearts trhough the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.'' (Romans 5:5)
