Year 9: Trust, networks and a strong finish to the term

As we move into the final stretch of the term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the important discussions we’ve had recently as a year group, and to share a few reminders and words of encouragement.

In our recent Protective Behaviours session, we explored the theme of Trust and Networks. Through group discussions and activities, we looked at real-life situations where trust plays a vital role—such as a passenger trusting a pilot, or a patient relying on a surgeon. These examples helped us understand how trust is essential, even when we don’t personally know the other person.

We also engaged in some hands-on trust-building activities like the Trust Walk, Trust Circle, and Control Tower. These exercises were not only fun but also powerful in showing how much we rely on others for guidance and support. We wrapped up by identifying the qualities that make someone trustworthy—qualities like honesty, reliability, and empathy—and discussed how these traits should guide us in choosing our own network of trusted people.

A reminder about our upcoming social event in Week 8 — on Thursday 19 June. We will be enjoying pizza and an escape room challenge, a perfect way to celebrate our hard work and strengthen our bonds as a year group. Don’t miss it and make sure to book via https://www.trybooking.com/DBPFT

In the meantime, let’s keep up the momentum. Continue speaking to your teachers about your work and keep building that solid work ethic. Remember, even just a few minutes of focused effort each day can make a big difference. The holidays are just around the corner, but now is the time for one final push. Let’s finish strong! Keep supporting each other, stay focused, and let’s make these last few weeks count.

Year 10: Exams, respect and real-world readiness

It’s crunch time — exams are just days away. If you are feeling swamped or unsure where to begin, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers or come and speak with me. There is still time to get organised, ask questions, and make a solid plan. A little structure and support can go a long way.

Recently we were fortunate to welcome a guest speaker from Armed for Life, who delivered a heartfelt and thought-provoking session on Relationships. The talk encouraged us to reflect on the values of respect, responsibility, trust, and love—not just in romantic relationships, but in friendships, family, and how we treat ourselves. It was a timely reminder of the importance of emotional intelligence and empathy.

In our Protective Behaviours lesson, we explored the theme of Rights and Responsibilities. Students brainstormed their rights at school—such as the right to feel safe, be respected, and express opinions—and paired these with the responsibilities that come with them.

We discussed how bullying, harassment, and discrimination are not just social issues, but violations of human rights, and how being an upstander can help protect those rights for everyone.

We also examined real-world scenarios involving school, work, and community life, and considered how laws and values shape our responsibilities. Topics like freedom of speech, diversity, and consent sparked meaningful conversations about fairness and inclusion.

Finally, a reminder to finalise your work experience placements if you haven’t already. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore future careers and gain valuable insight into the working world.

Let’s finish the term with focus, kindness, and confidence. You’ve got this!
