The IB Learner Profile in Action: A Snapshot of Learning in Our Classrooms
At our school, the IB Learner Profile continues to guide and shape everyday learning experiences. Rather than focusing on individual attributes in isolation, students are developing these qualities in a connected and meaningful way through their daily classroom activities.
It has been exciting to see students taking greater ownership of their learning as inquirers. They are asking thoughtful questions, exploring topics in depth, and building knowledge by making connections between their learning and the world around them. This curiosity is helping them become more engaged and motivated learners.
Collaboration has also been a strong focus, with students growing as communicators and open-minded learners. They are sharing ideas, listening respectfully to different perspectives, and working together to solve problems. These experiences are helping them learn how to express themselves clearly while valuing the contributions of others.
We have also seen students developing confidence as risk-takers and thinkers. Many are stepping outside their comfort zones and trying new approaches, sharing their thinking, and embracing challenges. They are beginning to understand that mistakes are an important part of learning and growth.
Equally important has been the way students are demonstrating that they are caring and principled. They are supporting their peers, showing empathy, and taking responsibility for their actions. This helps to create a positive and respectful classroom environment where everyone feels included and valued.
Students are also learning the importance of being balanced, as they manage their learning alongside their wellbeing. Classroom routines include opportunities for movement, collaboration and reflection, supporting students to develop healthy habits.
Reflection continues to play a key role, with students growing as reflective learners. They are thinking about their progress, identifying next steps and setting goals to further develop their skills and understanding.
Overall, it has been wonderful to see students becoming increasingly knowledgeable as they build understanding across subjects while developing the attitudes and skills of the IB Learner Profile. These qualities are helping them grow into confident, capable and compassionate individuals.
We encourage you to continue these conversations at home by asking your child how they are demonstrating the learner profile attributes in their learning and daily experiences.
