Student Leadership

Lunch Clubs - Term 2
Clubs have officially launched for Term 2, with a range of indoor activities running in the gym foyer alongside newly introduced outdoor clubs. These opportunities have been designed in response to student voice, with survey data highlighting a strong desire for more structured play during break times. It has been fantastic to see students engaging, collaborating, and trying new activities.
Our Year 6 Student Leaders and Wellbeing Leaders have taken on an important role in facilitating these clubs. You will notice them wearing hi-vis vests as they support, guide and encourage participation. They are currently building their confidence in leadership, with a focus on inclusivity, problem-solving and being approachable role models within the yard.
Brookdale Oval
We are also excited to share that the Brookdale Oval is now open during break times, providing students with additional space to be active and social. Students have demonstrated responsibility in using this space safely and respectfully.
As clubs continue to develop, there may occasionally be changes due to student leader availability. We appreciate everyone’s flexibility as we refine and strengthen the program moving forward.
House Token Design Competition!
We are excited to launch our House Token Design Competition! Students have been invited to create a design that represents the Learner Profile attributes, with the opportunity for selected designs to be turned into our official house tokens.
This has been a fantastic way for students to showcase their creativity while making meaningful connections to our school values. It has been wonderful to see the effort and thought students are putting into their designs, as well as the pride they are taking in contributing to the school community.
We look forward to seeing the final submissions and celebrating the winning designs!
First-Aid Leadership
I’ve recently had the amazing opportunity to start helping with First Aid here at Saltwater P–9 College, and it has been a great experience so far. We began with some hands-on training, where I learned that putting on a band-aid isn’t just a “stick it on and go” situation! I now know how to carefully cut band-aids into different shapes so they stay on tricky areas like knuckles and fingertips. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference for someone with a scrape.
During lunch breaks, you’ll usually find me completing my yard duty near the canteen. It’s a steady area to be stationed, and I enjoy supporting teachers by helping to keep an eye on things while students are out playing and socialising.
When I’m not at the canteen, I have the incredible opportunity to assist in the First Aid room. Nurse Alison has been teaching me so much about how to care for others, and it’s great to be part of the team alongside her and Nurse Sue. I feel very lucky to be learning these important life skills each week.

ANZAC DAY
We are incredibly proud of Myra, who will be bringing her artwork to the 94th Commemoration at the Shrine of Remembrance. As a valued member of the Junior School Council (JSC), Myra will leave her artwork as a mark of respect for the soldiers and their service.
Moments like these highlight the strength of our student leaders and the respectful way they represent our school community. Myra has demonstrated great care, thoughtfulness, and reverence in honouring this important occasion, and we commend her for her leadership and commitment.
Melbourne Storm Visit
Students in Years 7–9 recently had the exciting opportunity to participate in a rugby session led by players from the Melbourne Storm. We were fortunate to be joined by Manaia Waitere, Jahrome Hughes, and Gabriel Satrick, who generously shared their time and expertise with our students.
The session began with an engaging assembly, where the players spoke about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They highlighted how nutrition, hydration, and quality sleep play a key role in supporting performance, recovery, and overall wellbeing.
Following the assembly, students took part in practical activities, including skill development and touch rugby games. It was fantastic to see students actively involved, learning new techniques and gaining insight into the teamwork and dedication required at an elite level.
The visit concluded with a Q&A session, giving students the chance to ask questions and learn more about the players’ journeys and experiences in professional sport.
Overall, the session was a highly positive experience, providing students with valuable lessons in both physical activity and healthy lifestyle choices.

STEM Challenge
Over the last few weeks Year 5 and 6 students were given the opportunity to undertake a STEM challenge. Students were asked to find a solution to cooling an enclosed space (without electricity) in the "Beat the Heat Challenge". Students showed incredible creativity developing and testing innovative solutions using their skills and knowledge in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Well done to all the students who participated on their fantastic efforts!
