As we welcomed the Year of the Horse, Chinese language students across all year levels engaged in a range of vibrant activities to experience the traditions and cultural significance of Lunar New Year at school.

Year 7 students explored the legend of Nian, discovering the origin of the festival while sharing festive lollies and speaking New Year greetings.

Year 8 students created red fortune decorations, learned about New Year Eve’s family reunion dinners and the Spring Festival travel rush, and crafted traditional couplets and paper cuttings.

Year 9 students watched highlights from the Chinese New Year Gala and performed short group presentations. Year 10 students explored New Year customs, wrote bilingual couplets, played mahjong, and showcased their talents through singing, dancing and poetry. Our first language class extended their learning through classical literature and creative poster design.

Senior students designed character riddles, shared festive snacks, and studied the cultural and literary elements of the New Year Gala.

It was wonderful to see their creativity and enthusiasm across all year levels, reflecting our school’s warm, inclusive and supportive learning community, where language and culture come alive in meaningful ways.
