Senior School update

by Mr Nic Barca, Head of Senior School

I want to start by saying how proud we are of our senior students. It’s been a really demanding term with the SAC/outcome schedule, and they’ve handled it well.

In Homegroup, we’ve been focusing on organisation, particularly how to build a solid revision template that students can actually use, not just create and forget. This is something we’ll keep building on.

Our Senior School teachers have also been working within subject teams on consistent goal setting. A key focus has been student conferencing, making sure that after each SAC/outcome, students are reflecting, setting goals, and having a clear sense of what comes next.

Year 11 looking ahead – Term 2

Next term will move quickly for Year 11s:

Tomorrow Day (8 May)

All Year 11 students are required to attend. Unit 1 & 2 classes will be cancelled for the day, with priority given to Unit 3/4 classes. Study Hall will be available. Information has been posted on Teams.

Year 11 exams

With exams at the end of Term 2, we’ll begin a stronger focus on Skill Boosters to build exam skills and confidence.

Year 12 update

Formal

Planning is underway, led by Ms Thompson and Ms Ghanem. A student committee has been formed, and the theme is currently being developed.

SEAs (Special Examination Arrangements)

These are now finalised. Support continues in the classroom to ensure students are using their provisions effectively.

Skill Boosters (Term 2)

These will continue next term, with a focus on refining exam technique.

Practice exams

We will be running an English practice exam and one Science subject. More details will be shared soon, including payment information.

STRIVE program

This was launched this term with a pizza lunch and focused on deep revision strategies, along with using Notion as an organisational tool. A strong start, and something we’ll keep building on.

General reminders

Uniform

Students are expected to be in correct uniform. As the weather cools down, please note that hoodies are not permitted.

Study habits at home

Support at home really matters. Simple things like a consistent study routine, a quiet space, and keeping on top of work make a big difference over time.

Tip:  Study habits at home

A simple way to support effective study at home is the 45 + Reset routine.

  • 45 minutes of focused, distraction-free study (phone away, one subject, clear goal)

  • 10–15 minute reset (break, movement, snack, no screens if possible)

  • Repeat 2–3 times.

Families can support this by helping students:

  • Set a start time (this is often the hardest part)

  • Keep devices out of reach during study blocks

  • Check in briefly at the end: “What did you get done?”
