Careers team update
by Ms Fiona Fuller, Careers Coordinator
The BHHS Careers team is delighted to welcome Kylie McCall to her new role as VET Coordinator and Careers Advisor.
Kylie has been a valued member of the BHHS community for the past four years, bringing with her prior experience from the corporate sector. During her time at BHHS, she has worked closely with both the Senior and Middle Sub-school teams in an administrative capacity, developing a strong understanding of school policies and procedures.
Kylie is known for her warm and approachable manner, building positive relationships with students and supporting them in exploring their career pathways and future goals. These qualities make her a wonderful fit for the Careers team.
She has already made a fantastic start in her new role, demonstrating exceptional organisation and initiative, particularly through the successful rollout of the My Career Insights Morrisby program for Year 9 students.
We are thrilled to have Kylie join the Careers team and look forward to the positive impact she will continue to make within our school community.
Our Year 12 students recently attended an informative Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) briefing, where they gained valuable insights into the application process for further study.
During the session, students learned about the role of VTAC, how the ATAR and selection ranks work, as well as course admission requirements. They were also introduced to the range of support available to them throughout the year as they plan their post-school pathways.
We encourage all Year 12 students to connect with the Careers team whenever they need guidance or have questions. They are always welcome to drop in for a quick chat or book an appointment for a more in-depth conversation. Booking can be made via the BHHS Careers website.
Year 10 students recently took part in a resume writing workshop, where they had the opportunity to create their very first resume—an exciting step towards job seeking and work experience.
Throughout the session, students were encouraged to reflect on their many strengths, skills, achievements and personal qualities. It was wonderful to see them recognise just how much they have to offer, even if they don’t always notice these attributes in their day-to-day lives.
For those who already had a resume, the workshop provided a valuable chance to update and enhance their existing document by adding new skills, qualifications and achievements.
The Careers team is always available to help students refine and polish their resumes, ensuring they are well-prepared for future employment opportunities.
During Homegroup, our Year 10 students participated in a Work Experience information session, designed to prepare them for this exciting and valuable opportunity.
The session provided students with an overview of the Work Experience program, including expectations, timelines and how to secure a suitable placement. It also highlighted the many benefits of Work Experience, such as developing workplace skills, building confidence and gaining insight into potential career pathways.
We encourage all Year 10 students to start thinking about areas of interest and to reach out to the Careers team if they need support in organising their placement. The Work Experience program will run from 22-26 June. Resources and the Work Experience Handbook can be found in Year 10 Teams.
If any families own a business or work in an industry that could offer a work experience opportunity, we would love to hear from you. Please contact the Careers team: workexperience@boxhillhs.vic.edu.au
The My Career Insights, Morrisby Program profiling was rolled out in Week 4 of Term 1.
It’s fantastic to see such a high level of engagement with the Year 9 My Career Insights program! With 239 out of 250 students completing their Morrisby profiling in Week 4, our cohort is already off to a flying start in planning their futures.
Empowering Student Choices
By participating in the 1:1 unpacking sessions, students have gained a much clearer picture of their natural strengths and aptitudes. This isn't just about picking a job; it’s about giving them the confidence to make informed subject choices for the years ahead. It was also wonderful to have so many parents join the Webex meetings, as their support is vital in helping students navigate these exciting possibilities.
A Resource for the Future
One of the best features of the Morrisby Program is the "log-in for life" access. We strongly encourage students to add a personal email address to their accounts now. This ensures that even after they leave school, they can return to the platform to explore new career suggestions and study options as their interests and goals evolve over time.
Congratulations to all the Year 9s who have taken this proactive step toward their future careers!
BHHS is buzzing with excitement as throughout the year we welcome a range of tertiary providers to speak with our students.
Tertiary Talks give students the opportunity to hear directly from representatives about course options, campus life, entry requirements and future career pathways. It’s a fantastic chance for students to ask questions, gather information and start thinking more deeply about their post-school plans.
We look forward hosting these valuable sessions throughout the year, helping our students feel informed, confident and inspired about their next steps beyond BHHS.
