Year 4 News

We hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather!
As readers, we have continued enjoying our class novel Uncle Xbox. We have been reading closely, engaging in rich discussions, and completing sentence-level tasks connected to the text. This week, we revised conjunctions, because, but, and so and explored how they help us join two clauses together to create more detailed and interesting sentences. Students practised combining ideas from the novel, explaining reasons, showing contrast, and describing consequences within their writing. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they build more complex sentences.
The year 4s have been engaging in many fun and engaging learning opportunities. As mathematical thinkers, we have been exploring fractions in various ways. This week, we compared different fractions using a fraction wall to help us see how parts relate to a whole. We were able to make clear mathematical statements to explain our thinking. For example, we discovered that two tenths is the same as one fifth. We also investigated tenths in more detail by playing a pairs game, which helped us recognise equivalent fractions.
As part of our Health inquiry, “Health: Have you got the message?”, we have been exploring helpful ways to seek support when we need it. We discussed a simple strategy to communicate clearly: name the problem, say how it makes you feel, and ask if they can help. Students worked in small groups to engage in role plays, focusing on the help seeker and the given scenario. Through these discussions and performances, they practised expressing their feelings respectfully and responding thoughtfully to others. The children collaborated wonderfully together, showing empathy, teamwork, and growing confidence in communicating their needs.
A reminder that Home Learning is due each Monday, please support your child in ensuring this is completed weekly.
Thank you and have a wonderful week!
