Year 1 News

We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing long weekend! 

This week, we have continued exploring Recount Texts. As writers, we have been unpacking the purpose and structure of a recount. Together, we analysed different recount texts to identify the key parts: the title, orientation, sequence of events, and personal comment. We have been working hard to write our own recounts about our weekends. As thinkers, we have been focusing on using the correct structure and applying our knowledge of Colourful Semantics and past tense verbs to help us create clear and grammatically correct sentences.

As religious thinkers, we have been reading the Scripture story of Zacchaeus the Tax Collector and learning about the important message of forgiveness. Through this story, we explored how Jesus teaches us that when we are sorry and try again, we can be forgiven and make better choices. As a class, we reflected on what forgiveness might look like, feel like, and sound like. We also had the opportunity to think about a time when we forgave someone or when someone forgave us. 

Home Learning will begin this week for Year 1. Below are the daily learning tasks students are expected to engage in…

• Reading a text every night
• Practicing spelling and writing tricky words on the weekly spelling template every night
• Revise reading tricky words
• Counting each night 

A Literacy and Maths Home Learning Rubric will also be sent home this week. These tasks are designed to support and strengthen your child’s learning through the consolidation of learnt concepts. Thank you for your continued support. It truly makes a difference in your child’s learning.
