Year 2 News

What’s been happening in Grade 2 recently?

As people of faith, we have been learning about prayers. We have looked at Prayers of the Faithful and why they are an important part of Mass. Together, we have been reading examples of these prayers and talking about who and what we can pray for, such as people in need, our community, and our loved ones. Students have been practising how to write and share their own Prayers of the Faithful, using simple and thoughtful sentences.

Students from Year 2NA along with Year 5/6MC celebrated mass with Father Tien last Thursday. Thank you to Father for his service and well done to the readers in grade 5 and 6, as well as Holly W  and Toni W who brought forth the offertory.

As mathematicians, we have been learning about time. We have been exploring how to read analogue clocks and understanding how the different parts of the clock help us tell the time. We revisited the features of a clock, including the hour hand, the minute hand and the numbers around the clock face, and discussed how each part helps us work out the time. We have been focusing on reading o’clock and half past times, and some students have begun exploring quarter past and quarter to as well.

As writers, we have been learning to use checklists to ensure our writing includes everything it needs to. We have been using our checklist to reread our recounts and check that we have followed the correct structure and language features. We have been making sure our recounts include an orientation that tells the reader who was there, where it happened, when it happened and why. We have also been checking that our writing includes a clear sequence of events using time words such as First, Next, Then, After, and Finally. As we reread and edit our work, we have also been looking for past tense verbs and interesting describing words to make our writing clearer and more engaging for the reader.
