Year 3 News

Welcome to Week 7!

As members of a faith community, we are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We have been learning about the importance of forgiveness as a symbol of healing. We have discussed ways we show forgiveness to others and how it helps us to let go of our poor choices.

As readers and writers, we are enjoying reading our class novel Matilda by Roald Dahl. We are learning more and more about our favourite characters each day.  We have been summarising each chapter using the ‘Somebody Wanted But So Then’ strategy to help us identify the main points.

As mathematicians, we have been developing our understanding of Time — focusing on formal units of measurement and how we use them in everyday life. We explored formal units of time such as seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and years, learning how these units relate to one another (for example, 60 seconds in a minute and 24 hours in a day).

We discussed questions like:

  • How long does it take to brush your teeth?
  • How many minutes are in a school lesson?
  • How many days are in a week?

As part of our Health inquiry ‘Health: Have you got the message?’ we have been learning about ways to seek help when we need it. We have been talking about different situations where someone might need support and practising how to ask for help in a clear and confident way. We  created a list of five trusted adults we can go to if we ever feel worried, unsafe, or unsure about something. These trusted adults included parents, teachers, relatives, family friends, sport coaches or other safe adults in their lives.
