Foundation News

Welcome back after the long weekend! We hope everyone had a restful break. We are excited to begin our 7th week of school together. Today is Day 24 as we continue to count to 100 Days of School.
As mathematicians, we have been learning to correctly form our numbers from 0–9, focusing on where to begin and ensuring our numbers are facing the correct way. It would be great if you could reinforce this at home by practising writing these numbers together. Last week, the Foundation students also began a new maths unit on number. They have been engaging in many hands-on activities to strengthen their understanding of numbers and collections. One activity they have especially enjoyed is our group game where students roll a dice, circle the matching collection of dots, and write the corresponding numeral. See below for some examples of our incredible counting skills!
As people of faith, our students have been learning about the scripture story of Zaccheus. In this story, Jesus teaches us about forgiveness and the importance of not only saying sorry, but also showing it through our actions. Our students have been reflecting on times when they have needed to say sorry and how they can use both their words and actions to demonstrate this. We have also discussed how we can follow in Jesus’ footsteps by showing forgiveness to others. The students drew a picture and described a time when they said sorry and asked for forgiveness, just like Zaccheus.
This week we are learning to….
Reading/phonics: link the sound /a/ to the letter a and blending and segmenting sounds m,s,t,a
Writing: write about things we have seen or done using our letter/sound knowledge
Numeracy: make collections and match them to their digit (1-10)
Inquiry: present in front of the class and learn more about our classmates (ME Bags)
Religion: describe the events of Holy Week beginning with Palm Sunday
TRP: notice and name our emotions (emotional literacy)
Wishing everyone a great week!
