Tromboncino and Chillis galore!
Another week of exciting harvesting from the garden with our Tromboncinos ( trumpet shaped zucchini) and lots of chillis. We tried two different recipes for the Tromboncino, one sweet and one savoury. First up was a Tromboncino, Banana and Cinnamon muffin. We grated the tromboncino and combined it with mashed banana and then carefully measured out wholemeal flour, cinnamon and our raising agents. We talked about how vegetables can be used in sweet recipes to add moisture and nutrition without affecting the taste.
Next up on the menu was Chilli ‘non’ Carne where our knife skills were put to the test finely dicing lots of colourful vegetables. These were added to our big pot along with onion, garlic and spices and left to simmer away. While our chilli cooked, each team carefully rolled out a polenta dough to make our very own corn chips. Dividing the dough in half and then creating triangle chip shapes was the challenge of the day.
There was no clear winner of our sweet vs savoury recipe testing with everyone keen to taste and enjoy both equally. Well done Year 5’s on giving everything a go!
