Reading
This week in reading we explored how authors put road blocks and pot holes in front of their characters to make their stories engaging and exciting. We discussed our favourite books and why we love them and found out from our teachers what their favourite books are and why they love them. We looked out how authors hook readers in with exciting starts and how they make characters we love. We also started a novel study on the book Two Wolves by Tristan Bancks, an author who is coming to visit during Book Week. We are very excited!
Writing
We began a new creative writing unit in Writing this week, inspired by the ‘Just’ series by Andy Griffiths. Each class chose a word as a theme and we will be creating class short story books to share with each other based on that theme. We focussed last week on how to create a character that audiences would want to read about and how to craft our work so that the story is driven by what our characters want and how they get it.
Maths
This week we learned all about fractions. We learnt how to find equivalent fractions with the area model and using the same model how to add and subtract fractions. We also learnt how to benchmark fractions on a numberline and used that to help us add and subtract as well. We also got to play a really fun fractions colouring game with a partner where we put our knowledge of equivalent fractions to good use!
