From the Year 2 Classroom

Who can believe that we are already halfway through Term 3? Time flies when you’re having fun!

Last Friday, we attended Parish Mass, and our students’ behaviour was excellent. We were so proud of the way they conducted themselves and represented our school. Well done, everyone!

Next week we will acknowledge Bullying No Way Week (Monday 17th August - Friday 21st August), Australia's leading bullying prevention initiative that brings schools and communities together to promote respect, inclusion, and belonging. The 2026 theme, "Small Acts, Big Impact," reminds us that simple actions such as showing kindness, including others, and speaking up can make a significant difference in preventing bullying and creating safe, supportive learning environments.

Throughout the week, we will be engaging in conversations and activities that promote positive relationships, empathy, and respectful behaviour. Please discuss this at home with your child.

We had a wonderful time last week celebrating Grandparents Day. A big thank-you to everyone who came and helped us celebrate this wonderful day. We hope you had as much fun as we did.

We are continuing to see an increase in the number of squishy toys being brought into the classroom. To minimise distractions and prevent them from being misplaced, we kindly ask that all squishes remain at home.

Upcoming Events

  • Week 7
  • Friday, 28 August – Book Week Parade
  • Week 8
  • Tuesday, 1 September and Wednesday, 2 September – Learning Conversations

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been exploring the reading strategy Finding the Main Idea. Students have used three handy hints to help us find the main idea. They are: Title and Picture, First and Last Sentence and Repeated Words.

In Spelling, we have been learning when to use the letter ‘c’ and when to use the letter ‘k’ to spell words. We have also learnt the tricky words many, any and together.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, we have been developing our understanding of 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. We encourage students to continue learning the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. This is a wonderful foundation as they prepare for Year 3.

Religion

In Religion, we are continuing to learn about the life of Jesus and compare His experiences with our own lives. This week, students learnt about how we can be like Jesus in the way we treat our friends and care for others.

Inquiry

As we continue to develop our knowledge of historical buildings and landmarks in our community we have been focusing on the bridge. It was amazing to hear what we already knew about our bridge and what we wanted to find out more about.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to another exciting few weeks of learning together!
