From the Year Prep Classroom

It's hard to believe that by the end of this week we will have reached the halfway point of Term 3!

We had a fabulous time celebrating 100 Days of Learning. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the chance to reflect on just how far they have come and to celebrate their growth, learning, and increasing independence. The children should be very proud of all they have achieved so far this year.

In Literacy, we have been busy learning lots of new digraphs - two letters that make one sound. The students are loving this new learning, and it has been fantastic to see them beginning to transfer their knowledge into their writing. We are also introducing new tricky words at a rapid pace, and some of them are becoming quite challenging! While we teach these explicitly at school, it is important that children continue to practice them at home. This helps build confidence in recognising these words across a range of different texts, not just on tricky word lists, and supports their ability to use them in their own writing. Please refer to the charts sent home or alternatively the back of their reading diary.

In Mathematics, we have wrapped up our unit on addition and subtraction. We are incredibly proud of the progress the children have made and the confidence they are showing when solving number problems. We are now moving into our Measurement unit, which is always a fun, hands-on area of learning. Over the coming weeks, we will be exploring length, capacity, and mass. You might like to involve your child in measuring ingredients or liquids while cooking at home to reinforce their learning in a real-life context.

Visitor: On Thursday, we welcome Fr Jun Jun into our learning space. The children are eager to learn more about his role within the Church, and our faith community. Thank you, Fr Jun Jun for making time to come visit us and sharing your knowledge.

Book Week: Coming up is our much-anticipated Book Week Parade - almost as exciting as our 100 Days celebration! This year’s theme, “Symphony of Stories,” celebrates how different stories and voices come together to create something special, just like a symphony. It encourages children to explore their favourite books, use their imaginations, and celebrate the unique stories and voices that make each of us special. We can't wait to see everyone's creative costumes as we come together to celebrate the joy of reading, books, and all things literacy. Time to get busy creating those outfits!
