Principals Report

Can you believe we have been back at school for over a month already? Once this week is completed, we will be into the second half of Term 3. We have endured some wet weather lately and hopefully Spring is just around the corner. I recently saw a bike rider being swooped by a magpie on the path across the highway from Bunnings, which is usually a sure sign that the seasons are beginning to change! 

On Saturday we celebrated the Feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Australia’s only saint. Mary’s story is inspirational because it reminds us of the power of faith, courage and service to others. Despite many challenges, she remained committed to helping those in need and providing opportunities for children through education. Her well-known words, "Never see a need without doing something about it," continue to inspire us to show kindness, compassion and generosity in our daily lives. May St Mary of the Cross MacKillop encourage us to make a positive difference in our school, our community and our world. 

Our students continue to work hard each day and, as I walk the corridors and visit classrooms, it is wonderful to see learning taking place and students engaging positively in all aspects of school life. Having said that, we are working on ensuring that students are playing safely at recess and lunchtimes, particularly on the oval, where any signs of tackling and rough play are being closely monitored. 

This week we completed our annual census report, with a student population of 455, 53 staff members and just under 290 families (for those who are interested in the figures!). 

This Friday we will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption alongside Sacred Heart College. Celebrated on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption honours the Church's belief that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, was taken body and soul into heaven at the completion of her earthly life. It is a significant feast in the Catholic Church, reminding us of Mary's faith, humility and trust in God, while calling us to live with hope in God's promise of eternal life. It is one of only two Holy Days of Obligation observed in Australia that may fall on a weekday, the other being Christmas Day. We will celebrate with SHC students and staff in the MPB at 10:00am. Families and friends are warmly invited.

Calling All Dads! 

Just a reminder that we will celebrate Father's Day in the same way we celebrated Mother's Day earlier in the year. The day will begin with a special Father's Day Liturgy in the MPB at 10:00am, followed by a shared morning tea. Dads, step-dads and special father figures will then have the opportunity to join their children in the classroom for some fun Father's Day activities. 

Please save the date: Friday 4 September.
