From the Year 6 Classroom

And just like that, we are already halfway through the term!! Lots has been happening over the past few weeks; we are looking forward to a few less interruptions!

Literacy

In Literacy, students are continuing their novel study on ‘Once’ by Morris Gleitzman. This powerful story is prompting some deep thinking and discussion, and students are also developing the important skill of notetaking in preparation for their upcoming information report on Poland. Further to this, they are undertaking their own research on a country of their choice and completing their Information Report.

Maths

In Maths, we are currently consolidating our earlier learning on fractions—revisiting key concepts such as equivalence, simplifying, and applying fractions in real-world contexts.

Next, we will begin our unit on Angles. The students learnt how to identify, measure, and classify angles, as well as creating shapes using angles.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we’ve launched our new unit on the systems of government in Australia. We’re exploring how our government works, the roles of different branches, and the importance of democratic values.

Religion

In Religion, the year 6 students have been exploring ‘God’s Image’ through their Religious Education learning. In this unit, the students explore their identity and sense of belonging as developing young people and members of the Church community.
