NMPS and University High School Partnership

From Sarah Nightingale, Principal

Dear North Melbourne Primary School community,

I am writing to you to update you on a new venture for our Errol Street Campus to support one of our fellow government schools.

Due to local factors, University High School has seen significant enrolment increase and pressures over recent years. The department has supported these additional enrolments where possible within the school’s existing facilities as well as relocatable buildings.

Following two fire incidents in 2021 and 2022, several teaching and learning spaces were damaged. During rectification works, University High School’s Year 9 Galileo program was taught out of Carlton Primary School.

Although rectification works are complete, our school’s Errol Street Campus been identified as an alternate site to ensure sufficient capacity at University High School, and to support University High School’s Year 9 Galileo students throughout the 2024 school year.

To support this, our school will be used by these students from day 1, Term 1, 2024 to allow them to continue receiving quality education in a safe and fit for purpose environment.

The University High School program will occupy a portion of the Errol Street Campus in relocatable buildings.

As you may know, our school has a strong connection with University High School, with the two schools only 600m or so apart and many of our students transitioning to Uni High each year. It will be lovely to welcome back Year 9 students who started their schooling at North Melbourne Primary School.

We are glad to support our colleagues and community at University High School. We will continue to work closely with University High School leaders and the department to ensure the needs of our community are met.

To accommodate the Year 9 students, we will require some additional grounds work to our Errol Street Campus. We anticipate works to begin from this term and into early next year, to allow a streamlined start for the Year 9 program at Errol Street Campus for the commencement of the 2024 school year.

I will provide ongoing updates to our school community regarding these upcoming changes. I’ll continue to work with the Department on ensuring any questions are addressed as soon as possible.

As always, I thank you all for your ongoing support to North Melbourne Primary School.
