Deaf Sports Day

From Sonia, Year 4 teacher

Every year, Deaf students from Primary Schools across Melbourne come together for fun-filled day of track and field events at Doncaster Athletics Track.

On the 26th of October students competed in the 100m race, 200m race, high jump, long jump, shotput and vortex throw. The competition was friendly, with a focus on building skills, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones over the day.

NMPS was represented by our very own Rafferty in 4C. We joined other schools in the Visiting Teacher Team, and out of 16 schools and over 150 students, we placed 4th!

A wonderful effort by all involved and a big thank you to Deaf Sports Victoria for organising the day.

Divisional Tennis

Written by Alice D, Student, 6E

When I ran through the gates at 8:30, I was pumped with excitement because today would be a whole day of just tennis! We met on the steps outside the gym, eager to hop on the bus right at that very moment. Then at 9:00, with our rackets ready, we were led out of the school gate and onto the bus. After a while we arrived at the tennis courts at Keilor Park  and were ready to jump into action.

During the day we played two other schools and our results were mixed, but we still had a great time and a wonderful experience to bring back to school. The bus on the way back was filled with chatter and joy, the day ending with all of us heading back to our classes.

Regional Athletics

From Ben, Kale and Mark, Physical Education Teacher

Congratulations to Jaz D, Xavier C, Max P on their efforts at Regional Athletics. Xavier ran a great race in the 800m race and finished 10th overall. In his shot put event, Max finished 5th with a big improvement from his attempt at Division. Jaz overcome adversity on the day to run a great race in her 800m event. Please see her reflection below.

Thank you to all parents who assisted and supported their students on their athletic journey in 2023!

Reflection on competing

By Jaz D, Student in 4F

After making it to State Cross Country earlier in the year and after having got firsts at Districts and Divisional Athletics, I was certainly feeling the nerves for Regional Athletics! I was competing in two events - the 1500m at 9:30am and the 800m at 1:30pm. One and a half laps into my 1500m, I started vomiting and had to stop.

I was really upset. We drove home and I didn’t think I’d be able to run my 800m. But then I decided to try and give it a go. I was proud to come eighth out of 16, even when I felt unwell! I am looking forward to next year’s Cross Country and Athletics! Congratulations to Xavier and Max for also making it to Regionals!
