NMPS Arts Showcase

From Gabbi, Assistant Principal

Celebrating Visual and Performing Arts

Over three big nights from 24 to 26 of October and across two campuses, North Melbourne Primary School held our biennial Arts Showcase to illustrate the incredible work the Prep to Year 6 students have been doing in Visual and Performing Arts this year.

Our Errol Street events included the display of fine art in the library and Old Building, and included displays of work from their wonderful Art Portfolios. Parents and families gathered in the gym to watch students perform their class work, including either a student-led skit, or a class musical act. This included students demonstrating their talents at playing musical instruments, singing, narrating, and acting. Additionally, a small group of students took the lead on the sound desk to ensure the smooth running of the performance.

At Molesworth Street, the visual arts work included intricate 2D and 3D artworks, while the Performing Arts provided the first official opportunity for our community to gather in our new Theaterette. Students performed special whole-class musical acts, with Year 2 students facilitating the performance through the narration of Little Red Riding Hood. Parents and Friends sold hot drinks and snacks at the Errol Street performance for our hungry audience prior to the show.

We thank the many parents, friends, and family members that attended these events and supported us in making these nights so successful, including our Parents’ and Friends Association who volunteered at the Errol Street stall.

We wish to acknowledge the work the Visual and Performing Arts teachers in the lead up to the event, and additionally to offer a big thank-you to all of those staff that supported the performance during the Arts Showcase week.

We are very proud of each one of our students for their individual contributions to our Showcase, and congratulate them on their success.
