From the Year 2 Classroom

What an amazing term of learning it has been! We are so proud of all our students for how well they have adjusted to the routines and expectations of Year 2. It has been a term full of fun, building new friendships, working cooperatively in our classrooms, and always striving to do and be our best. We are so excited to see what Term 2 brings!

In Literacy, we have continued to develop our comprehension skills through our Storybook lessons. We especially enjoyed learning about shearing and how wool is made into fabric while reading Pete the Sheep. Throughout these lessons, we have also expanded our vocabulary, exploring words such as sensational, success, andadmiring. In Spelling, we have focused on several digraphs, including spelling choices for the /u/ sound (‘ew’, ‘ue’, and ‘u-e’), as well as the “bossy e.” We have also been learning some tricky words: really, because, animal, bought, and different. These are great to practise at home!

In Writing, we have enjoyed “lift a line,” where we read part of a text and then predicted what might happen next. This has supported our reading lessons, where our comprehension strategy has been predicting.

In Maths, we have continued to build our Addition and Subtraction skills by working to the nearest 10. We have used MAB and number lines to help us further develop our skills in these areas.

In Religion, we have continued to explore the events of Holy Week, and we really enjoyed acting out ‘Palm Sunday’ with Mrs. McInness.

We are looking forward to presenting Liquid Pictures to the whole school at our Holy Week Liturgy this Thursday at 9.45am.

We will then participate in “The Big Walk.” Don’t forget that students can wear their house colours on this day.

In Respectful Relationships we have been learning about keeping ourselves safe at school as well as on the Internet. We have been learning to identify acts of kindness and how doing these acts makes us feel. We also explored how teamwork helps create friendly connections with others through a partner activity.
