From the Year 4 Classroom

Literacy: We have finished reading our novel Leo and Ralph. We have also completed writing our narratives about an imaginative friend, animal, or creature. Students worked well with their partners to share ideas before writing their narratives. We are now in the process of publishing the stories, so keep an eye out for when your child brings theirs home to share.

Numeracy: We have begun our new numeracy unit on Multiplication and Division. It would be very helpful if students could continue practising their times tables at home. In class, students will complete daily fluency practice to build their confidence and accuracy. Our current focus is on multiplying 3- and 4-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers with regrouping, using base 10 blocks to support understanding.

Religion: We are completing our unit on Lent – Almsgiving, Prayer and Fasting. We are looking forward to participating in The Big Walk to raise money for CARITAS. This gives us the opportunity to put ourselves in the shoes of those less fortuntate to connect with our learning.

If your child is receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, a note was sent home yesterday. Please ensure this is completed over the holidays and returned on the first Tuesday of Term 2, as it requires information about your child’s chosen Saint and their Sponsor. As part of this, your child will need to research their chosen Saint and interview their Sponsor using the questions provided on the sheet.

Mercy Values – Respect, Hospitality, Compassion, Service, Courage and Justice. As a whole school, we are breaking one value open each week to see how we can live the value. Our focus has been Service and Courage.

Inquiry: We are learning about sleep on the brain and the importance sleep. This week students will be working on creating a sleep routine to assist in helping their brain best learn at school. Students have been working on a project to present to the class.

PBIS Focus:

Be Safe – keeping hands, feet and objects to themselves, following the rules, and asking for adult help when needed. Be Respectful – using kind words, including others, and caring for people and property. Be Your Best – trying their hardest, making positive choices, learning from mistakes, and persevering when things feel challenging.

Upcoming dates:

Community Announcement

We have a group of students who are interested in learning how to crochet and knit. We would like some volunteers to teach them the skills either before school or during lunchtime. If you or anyone you know- such as grandparents, aunties, uncles etc- are available at these times we would love to hear from you.  All volunteers must hold a current Working With Children's Check (WWCC) and complete an online application form and induction. Please email or call the office if you are interested. Hoping to start early Term 2.

Thank you for a wonderful term of learning in Year 4. We hope you have a safe, happy and relaxing holiday. Looking forward to seeing you next term.
