MIDDLE SCHOOL | Update

Dear Parents/Carers, Students And Friends
As we approach the end of Term 2, I would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the achievements, growth and commitment demonstrated by our students across the Middle School.
Year 9 and 10 Exams | Excellence and Aspiration
In Week 9, our Year 9 and Year 10 students completed their English, Mathematics and Science examinations. These assessments provided students with an opportunity to demonstrate their learning, preparation and commitment throughout the semester.
It has been fantastic to see students approach these exams with a strong sense of purpose, demonstrating our school pillars of Excellenceand Aspiration. The way students prepared, challenged themselves and persevered through the examination process reflects the high expectations they hold for themselves and their continued growth as learners.
I would like to acknowledge our students for their efforts and thank our English, Mathematics and Science teachers for their work in preparing students, providing feedback and supporting them throughout this important learning experience.
Year 9 UpSkills Week | Building Confidence, Skills and Future Pathways
This week, all the Year 9 students are participating in an exciting UpSkills Week. The UpSkills Program has been designed to provide Year 9 students with meaningful opportunities to develop practical skills, explore future pathways and build confidence and independence.
This program has been intentionally scheduled ahead of Year 10 Subject Selection to support students in making informed decisions about their future pathways. Through a range of experiences, students will have the opportunity to reflect on their strengths, interests and aspirations as they begin to consider the subjects and programs that will support their future goals.
Across the three days, students will participate in a wide range of activities facilitated by Frankston High School staff, Frankston High School alumni and external providers. Students will also participate in a City Experience excursion, providing opportunities to explore environments beyond the classroom and develop greater independence.
A highlight of the program will include workshops delivered by Courage to Care, where students will learn about being an upstander. These sessions educate and empower students to recognise injustice and respond in safe and practical ways with confidence. Students will explore how to recognise discrimination and respond with empathy, understanding and action.
Students will also participate in workshops delivered by Speak and Share, focusing on identity, wellbeing and strengthening support networks. These sessions will encourage students to reflect on the many factors that shape who they are, including values, relationships, culture, online influences and life experiences, and how these can influence thoughts, emotions, behaviours and wellbeing.
We look forward to seeing our Year 9 students embrace these opportunities and continue developing the skills, confidence and resilience needed for their future.
Year 10 Work Experience | Exploring Pathways in our Community
This week, our Year 10 students will step beyond the school gates to participate in work experience across a wide range of industries and workplaces. This is an important opportunity for students to gain insight into the world of work, explore areas of interest and develop valuable employability skills.
We wish all Year 10 students an incredible experience as they connect with workplaces, learn from industry professionals and continue exploring their future pathways. This experience should set them up well for Term 3 Year 11 subject and program selection.
Subject and Course Selection | Preparing for 2027
Next term, there will be a significant focus on Subject and Course Selection, with all students in Years 8–11 selecting their 2027 subjects and programs.
Students will be supported through career exploration activities in their Optima sessions, along with a range of key events and resources designed to assist students and families in making informed decisions.
Choosing subjects is an important process, and we encourage students to reflect on their interests, strengths, goals and future aspirations. We look forward to working alongside families to support every student in selecting pathways that challenge, engage and inspire them.
Please see the SUBJECT SELECTION | Timeline tab for the important dates and events for Year 9 and Year 10 students to support this process.
Attendances – Every Day Counts
Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.
Establishing consistent and predictable routines helps improve school days. A focus on improving our Year 9 and 10 attendance will support their learning progression and transition onto the Senior Campus where students need to maintain 90% attendance to be eligible for a satisfactory result.
You can check your child’s attendance through your Parent Compass Portal by navigating to their ‘profile’ and selecting ‘attendance’.
Term 2 Holiday Break
As we finish another busy and successful term, I would like to thank our students, families and staff for their continued commitment to our school community. I hope all families enjoy a safe and relaxing Term 2 holiday break. We look forward to welcoming students back in Term 3 for another exciting term.
