2027 SUBJECT SELECTION
To support students and families, we have developed year level-specific timelines, included below, outlining key dates and events related to subject selection.
These include information sessions, course selection opening and closing dates, and key opportunities such as careers education and program planning.

Year 8 into Year 9

| Optima – Career exploration focus | As part of their Optima program, Year 8 students will take part in a series of career-focused activities designed to support their transition into Year 9.
These activities will help students begin exploring their interests, strengths and future options as they start making informed decisions about their learning pathways.

Term 3 Week 1 Tuesday 14 July | Year 8 into Year 9 Course Selection Assembly
| Students will hear from Learning Area Leaders about the subjects on offer in Year 9.
This information will be delivered during a dedicated year level assembly, where students will receive important instructions to guide their subject selection process.
Parents and carers will have access to the same information via the videos embedded into the FHS Pathways Website.
A copy of the presentation will also be emailed to families following the assembly.

Term 3 Week 3 | Course Confirmation | Year 8 students will have a brief meeting with a Head of Year, Year Level Coordinator or Optima teacher to confirm subject selections.

Term 3 Week 5 Friday 14 August | Course Selection due through EDVAL | Final day for course selection to be entered online via EDVAL.
Students will be emailed this link in Week 3 of Term 3: Friday 31 July.

Year 9 into Year 10

Term 2 Week 7 Tuesday 2 June (open)
Term 3 Week 1 Friday 17 July (close) | Year 10 VCE Acceleration Applications | Students wishing to apply to study a VCE subject in Year 10 can submit an acceleration application through Compass Insights during the subject selection period. Applications open on Tuesday 2 June and close on Friday 17 July. Students will be notified of the outcome of their application via Insights on Monday 27 July.
Families are encouraged to discuss acceleration carefully, considering the student's academic performance, work habits, and readiness for the increased demands of VCE study.

Term 3 Week 1 Thursday 16 July Period 6 (students) | Frankston High School Subject and Tertiary Expo, Senior Campus
| During Period 6: Students will attend the Subject and Tertiary Expo.
Students will have the opportunity to explore the Year 10 and VCE subjects available at the expo and gain valuable information to support their future subject selections. They will also engage with representatives from a range of TAFEs and universities at the expo, asking questions and learning about post-school study and career pathways.

Term 3 Week 1 Thursday 16 July 3.30pm-4.50pm (parents/carers) | Frankston High School Subject and Tertiary Expo, Senior Campus | Parents/carers are warmly invited to attend the Subject and Tertiary Expo. This is a valuable opportunity to explore the wide range of Year 10, VCE and VCE VM subjects available at Frankston High School and to discuss future pathway options with your child.
Representatives from a range of universities, TAFEs and training providers will also be in attendance to provide information and answer questions about post-school study, training and career opportunities.
We encourage all families to attend and take advantage of the opportunity to gather information, ask questions and support informed subject and pathway decisions for the years ahead.

Term 3 Week 1 Thursday 16 July Periods 5 and 6 (students) | Frankston High School Subject and Tertiary Expo, Senior Campus | During Period 5, students will attend the Subject and Tertiary Expo. Students will have the opportunity to explore the VCE and VCE VM subjects available at the expo and gain valuable information to support their future subject selections. They will also engage with representatives from a range of TAFEs and universities at the expo, asking questions and learning about post-school study and career pathways. During Period 6 students will complete a survey to submit their VCE and VCE VM Taster Day subject preferences. |

These experiences will assist students in making informed subject selections and exploring future education, training and career pathway opportunities. |
Term 3 Week 3 Thursday 30 July | VCE and VCE VM Taster Day | Periods 1-5: The VCE and VCE VM Taster Day is designed to help students make informed decisions about their future studies by providing firsthand experience of a range of subjects and programs. Through participating in sample lessons, students will gain a better understanding of the content, learning activities and expectations associated with each subject. Period 6: Students will have a Year 10 Assembly. |
Term 3 Week 5 Friday 14 August | Course Selection due through EDVAL | Final day for course selection to be entered online via EDVAL.

Term 3 Week 5 Monday 10 August OR Tuesday 11 August | Course Selection Interviews | All Year 10 students will participate in a Course Selection Interview with a Course Counsellor. Bookings open on Monday 13 July and can be made by parents/carers via Compass. Students are required to attend, and parents/carers are warmly encouraged to participate in the interview. These interviews provide an important opportunity to discuss subject choices, pathways and future aspirations to support informed decision-making for Senior School studies. |

Term 3 Week 2
| Course Confirmation Interviews | As a significant amount of course selection and pathway planning has already been completed through Optima activities in Terms 2 and 3.
Year 11 students and their families are invited to attend an optional Year 12 Course Confirmation Interview.
Bookings open on Monday 22 June and can be made by parents/carers via Compass Conferences, the same way Parent Student Teacher Conferences are booked. While attendance is optional, students are encouraged to attend, and parents/carers are warmly invited to join them.
These interviews provide an opportunity to confirm subject choices, review pathways, and ensure students are well prepared for their final year of schooling. |
Term 3 Week 3 Thursday 30 July | Course Selection | Whilst Year 10 students participate in the VCE and VCE VM Taster Day, Year 11 students will have a learn from home day where they will complete their EDVAL subject selection for Year 12 ensuring their subject choices align with their future pathway goals. Students will also be asked to ensure their Career Action Plans are completed thoroughly via Compass Insights and complete any required applications via Compass Insights, including 2027 VET program application and external study applications (Victorian School of Languages). |
