LIFE SKILLS | Program

This semester, a group of our students have been building real-world skills and confidence through the Life Skills Program. The program runs for a full day and aims to strengthen social connectedness, build independence and confidence in navigating various elements of everyday life through activities and excursions.

Some activities include cooking, laundry and grocery shopping at IGA to purchase ingredients, which they then use to prepare meals at school. These activities help to further grow their practical literacy and numeracy skills. Students have been supported to develop their social connectedness through group sessions involving arts and crafts and interactive games.

Most recently students visited Sweetwater Creek, where they photographed natural landscapes and flora and fauna, strengthening their connection to land and confidence in accessing their local community.

One student shared:

“This is the best excursion, I had so much fun”.

We are proud of the growth and confidence these students continue to show, and we look forward to sharing more updates from the program next term.
