Science Department Term 1 Wrap-Up
It has been an exciting and enriching term in the Science Department at Scoresby Secondary College, with students engaging in authentic, hands-on learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Our Year 8 students recently attended the KIOSC for the Sustainable Futures program. This immersive experience challenged students to think critically about the future of our world, exploring key concepts such as renewable energy, sustainable design, and environmental impact.
Students have since drawn on this experience to inform their “Scoresby 2050” projects, where they are designing innovative and sustainable visions for the future of our local community. It has been fantastic to see students applying real-world knowledge and creativity to address global challenges.
Our Year 12 VCE Biology students also had the opportunity to attend KIOSC as part of a specialised VCE Masterclass: Biology Unit 3: DNA Manipulation and Genetic Technologies.
This session provided students with valuable exposure to advanced laboratory techniques and contemporary biotechnological practices that are central to their studies. Engaging with real equipment and methodologies has strengthened their understanding of complex concepts and provided excellent preparation for their upcoming SACs and exams.
These experiences highlight the importance of connecting classroom learning with real-world applications. We are proud of the way our students have embraced these opportunities and look forward to building on this momentum next term.
