Drama Fun @ Scoresby
I am so excited to be teaching the wonderful Year 8 students Drama this semester. We have been exploring how to collaborate, how to stage and how to use dramatic elements and expressive skills- the tools of an actor.
A key focus has been developing characterisation skills. Students experimented with voice, movement, and facial expression to bring unique characters to life. Through group activities, they also learnt the importance of teamwork—supporting one another to create engaging and believable performances.
One of the highlights of the term was our first ensemble performance. In small groups, students devised their own short scenes, based on the characters they created. The results were impressive, with many students demonstrating strong storytelling skills and a growing stage presence. Drama is not just about performing—it also encourages problem-solving, empathy, and communication. It has been wonderful to see students step outside their comfort zones, take creative risks, and reflect on their progress.
Creativity and being able to collaborate, work in teams and communicate effectively is an essential skill that we all fundamentally need for any occupation and career. As Picasso once uttered
‘The purpose of art is to wash the dust of daily life off our souls’.
Scoresby offers dramaas part of their core studies in Year 8 and then as an elective in Year 9 and beyond……
Long live the Performing Arts.

Media Fun @ Scoresby
A lot of exciting things have been happening in Media classes this term. Year 10 students have been learning how to use DSLR cameras and develop good interviewing skills. Students have enjoyed spending time outside the classroom and learning hands-on skills.
Year 11 students have completed their first video essay about the Barbie movie and are now preparing a group podcast exploring the question “can we separate art from the artist?”. It will be exciting to see what they produce.
Year 12 students have also completed their video essays and have begun developing their folios for their SAT productions: this is their major piece of work spanning the whole school year. Most students choose to make a short film, but they can also produce a magazine or even a series of photos.
VCE Media students will be attending the Top Screen screening next term: a showcase of the best work in Media Arts from 2025. They will explore ACMI first then watch the screening. This will help them as they develop their ideas for their production. Stay tuned for more updates on their production process throughout the year!

Dance Fun @ Scoresby
Scoresby Secondary College is delighted to offer ‘Dance’ as a new elective for Year 9 and Year 10 this year.
Professional dance instructors from ‘Footsteps’ coach students in a variety of dance styles and steps. Students will perform their own choreography routines in a showcase at the end of the unit.
Here is what the students have to say about the one-hour workshops so far:
“It brings the class closer together and the class has good vibes” – Abraham and Jimmy
“The moves are easy enough that we can all do them and it’s fun”. – Laura, Jacinta and Renee
Students have learnt routines to music from Michael Jackson and Dom Dolla.
