Student achievement : Representative Football

Rylie flying high for the Northern Knights

Pursuing a passion for Footy

Continuing Northcote's strong association with girls' and women's football, we are very proud of the achievements of three students who have been playing in this year's NAB league, the top statewide under 19 competition in Victoria.

Lulu Beatty, Rylie Wilcox (Year 11) and Molly McKerlain (Year 10) were all selected for the Northern Knights this season,  a representative AFL team that plays in the NAB competition. The girls' team competes in a 9 week home and away season, with three weeks of finals.

I really enjoyed playing for the Northern Knights this year. After going through a trial and selection process in the pre-season, they picked a final squad and then the challenge was to make it into the team every week.

The home and away season was really fun, we won five games and lost three and even got to take a trip to Tassie, which was definitely one of the highlights of the season. We managed to get into finals and played our first final against Eastern Ranges, where we unfortunately lost. However, it was a great season, I learnt so much and made so many friends, it was a really good experience and hopefully I get to do it again next year.

Throughout the season of being apart of the Northern Knights, I have learnt many new skills to improve my fundamentals and ability to play my best at most times. It has taught me to be resilient at the most difficult times in play, and I hope to carry that throughout my footy career.

After a strong season with the Knights, Rylie and Lulu both were also both invited to be part of the Victorian metropolitan (Vic Metro) under 17s squad, where they played two games against Vic Country. A great achievement!
